Nano Graphene can make plain paper into flexible display
Researchers from Bilkent University in Turkey put a common typing paper between two graphene film (composed of multilayer graphenes), so that it became a flexible electronic display. They also formed the graphene into a multi-pixel mode, folded the paper into three-dimensional shape, and printed out multicolor patterns, showing another effect of different types of chips technology.
Researchers grew the grapheneby on the metal surface through chemical vapor deposition. They etched the metal in water and then left a graphene film, and put the paper into water, so that the graphene film transferred to the paper. During the experiment, the display took less than half a second changing from transparent to dark, and on the contrary, from dark to transparent took about 4 seconds, which was more suitable for the signal system which did not need to transform the image. However, compared with the conventional display, the refresh rate was still too slow.
Graphene is practically a one atom thick layer of carbon atoms, densely packed in a hexagonal (honey comb) lattice. The carbon-carbon bond length in graphene is about 0.142 nanometers. It is already known that it has unbelievable strength and conductivity, both of which are a result of its structure.
Graphene differs from conventional 3D materials in that it is a semi-metal or zero-gap semiconductor. It has a remarkable electron mobility at room temperature and it has been showed that electrical current going through it can magnetize it.
