1、Carbon Nanotube/ Polymer Composite Materials
Carbon nanotubes possess unique mechanical and electrical properties, while polymers are easy to process and have wide applicability. Combining the advantages of both can result in the development of high-performance and versatile new materials. Recently, it has been reported that the tensile strength of carbon nanotube/polymer composites with a volume fraction of carbon nanotubes ranging from 30% to 50% exceeds 1.2 GPa. Additionally, it has been reported that the volume resistivity of carbon nanotube/cellulose paper composites is 0.53 Ωcm, and they exhibit shielding effectiveness of over 20 dB within the frequency range of 15-40 GHz. Moreover, within the frequency range of 30-40 GHz, their electromagnetic wave absorption efficiency exceeds 80%, making them excellent absorber materials for electromagnetic waves.
2、Carbon Nanotube/Metal Matrix Composite Materials
Composite materials consisting of carbon nanotubes and various metal matrices such as iron-based, nickel-based, copper-based, aluminum-based, magnesium-based, and silver-based have been extensively studied and have shown promising performance. For instance, the use of carbon nanotubes in Fe80P20 composites prepared via rapid solidification methods significantly improves the thermal stability and electrical resistance while reducing the saturation magnetization of the composites. Furthermore, carbon nanotube/copper-based composites were fabricated by surface treatment of catalytically pyrolyzed carbon nanotubes with nickel plating, by mixing with copper powder and subsequent processes of cold pressing, hot pressing, rolling, and vacuum annealing. It was found that the composite material exhibited the best lubrication effect, oxidation inhibition, and wear resistance when the volume fraction of carbon nanotubes ranged from 12% to 15%.
3、Carbon nanotube/ceramic-based composite materials
Ceramic materials possess excellent properties such as high temperature resistance, wear resistance, low weight, and high strength retention at high temperatures, due to the bonding of covalent and complex ionic bonds and their complex crystal structure. However, the biggest drawback of ceramic materials is their brittleness. By incorporating a certain amount of carbon nanotubes during the ceramic preparation process, which have unique mechanical properties, the fracture toughness of the ceramic materials can be greatly improved, the brittleness can be mitigated, and their mechanical properties can be enhanced. Moreover, this addition can also significantly improve the thermal properties of the ceramic materials.
