Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes Properties
Individual SWCNTs offer tremendous opportunities to understand electronic properties in the 1D regime. For realistic applications that can take advantage of the extraordinary electronic,mechanical and optical properties of SWCNTs, SWCNTs thin films offer the best potential, especially in emerging areas such as next generation flexible and multifunctional electronics.
Compared with existing technology and other potential materials envisioned for silmilar applications, SWCNTs films exhibit exceptional and unique propeties, and at the same time are compatible with conventional semiconductor device materials and fabrication techniquies.
Transparent flexible and/or large area devices have been fabricated using SWCNT films. The potential of using aligned SWCNT arrays for high-frenquency applications is also demonstrated. Future effort will be focused on improving the electronic homogeneity of SWNTs by either postsyntheis treatment or the development of electronically selective growth strategies.
Controlled doping of SWCNTs and enhanced deposition methods will also be investigated. How to overcome these challenges quickly and effectively may ultimately determine the success of SWCNTs in the competition with other materials.Nonetheless, the many possibbilities arising from the intrinsic extraordinary properties of SWCNTs for both fundamental research and breakthrough technologies will undoubtedly keep SWCNTs as fascinating as they have been for years to come.
